Rex / Storm edit add-ons

Thanks to Mr. Akira Ohmachi in Japan we can now enjoy the full pleasure of Rex/Storm-edit software. He has written the software that you can find on this page. Needless to say that he is our hero and that we are all exceptionally glad that he took the time to help us out. However, there are two conditions; I don't want to burden him with email messages from all over the world. I would rather see that he uses his spare time (if any) to write more fine utilities for all of us. So if you have any questions, please direct them to me, so that I can filter them out. The other condition is that you all respect the way this software is distributed and that you don't place it on other places. Of course you can place a link to this page. The other advantage is that you will always find the latest versions on this page. I hope you will respect these conditions.

General Warning:

We accept no responsibility for the software, so be wise and always have the software operate on a copy of the original dvc file. I have tested the software and found no bugs or strange behaviours, but you never know. So be smart and make a copy first before you process it through the software.

Installation of the software:

Prepare a folder for the application (for instance DVC editor), download the software of your choice and unzip to that folder. Unzip the mfc42.zip file to the windows/system directory and keep a backup in your DVC editor folder. The reason is that many applications use the same dll but there could be different versions around. So it's best to keep a copy. That's it !!!!

Description of the software:

DVC find:   This allows you to choose a dvc file as input and it will output (from within the application) a listing with all the files mentioned in the dvc file, but which are no longer on the defined location. Use this application to find out which files are missing. You can then make dummy files so that the dvc file will be opened.

DVC list:         This basically performs a conversion from a dvc file into a txt file. The whole dvc file is processed, so you will also see the in- and outpoints of the BIN source files, effect descriptions, title information etc. etc. All the in- and outpoints are represented as frame numbers, not timecode.

But in the last part of the file you will find a complete Edit Decision List (EDL) according to the standard format, so source in-outpoint, recorder/project in-outpoints, description of straight cut or wipe, audio and/or video edit etc. etc. All these times are based on the regular timecode format. (hr.min.sec.frms)

DVCEX  2.10:   In this release all the functions of the above described software are integrated.

What is it      ;          A user-friendly all-in-one application that has the following modules:

DVC to txt    ;          This module performs a conversion from a dvc file into a txt file. The whole dvc file is processed, so you will also see the in- and outpoints of the BIN source files, effect descriptions, title information etc. etc. All the in- and outpoints are represented as frame numbers, not timecode.

Also in the last part of the file you will find a complete Edit Decision List (EDL) according to the standard format, so source in-outpoint, recorder/project in-outpoints, description of straight cut or wipe, audio and/or video edit etc. etc. All these times are based on the regular timecode format. (hr.min.sec.frms)

Txt to DVC   ;          This module can perform a conversion from a txt file to a dvc file.  Say what?? Yep, you’ve understood the full implication. This module (in combination with the DVC-to-txt module) enables you to:

Convert a dvc file in a txt file, modify this txt file (for instance change the location from source files, edit the text of your title files, change the title colors etc. etc.) in Notepad or any other plain text editor, and then convert that text file right back into a regular dvc file !!!! So now you can edit a dvc file without starting Rexedit !

Example: your source files are in D:\wedding\, but you have moved this folder (or files within the folder) to another location for instance F:\wedding parttwo\. With this module you can simple do a search in the textfile for “D:\wedding\” and replace it with “F:\wedding\”. Now convert this modified text file to a new dvc file and voila you can open your project!

The help file indicates very clearly which parts can be edited freely such as locations, font types, font sizes, audio levels , in/outpoints, titles, title colors etc. etc.

Find               ;          This module will give you a listing of all the files in your dvc file that are no longer available on the original locations. With this module you can quickly check whether your source files are still available or not and thus prevent the annoying messages such as “files not found”.

General info ;          The software can handle:

RexEdit up to version 2.91has been officially tested. Unofficial tests have been performed with version 2.93 also and it appears to be fully functional

EzEdit up, but hasn’t been tested fully, since there’s no test environment available to the  software designer

NTSC dropframe

NTSC non drop frame

PAL

Frames mode

CSV (Comma Separated Value list) this mode can be used to easily export your EDL files to Excel or any other database program that supports CSV files

The software comes with a English and Japanese help file which explains the ins- and outs of the various modules.

Demoversion;        The downloadable version is partly functional. All the modules are available, EXCEPT the txt to dvc module, this is disabled in the evaluation version.
