ABC Projecten Video Editing Services EDIUS and general editing techniques tutorials |
This page will be used to publish tutorials
on video editing techniques. Since probably most of the people that visit this
page are editing with Edius, the focus will be on this application.
PS. If you use Windows Media Player, then
these files are best viewed in Full Screen Mode (hit ALT+ENTER)

This tutorial explains the
basic principle of wipes. What is a wipe and how can you predict what a wipe
will look like in the actual program if you've only seen the bitmap? What do
you need to keep in mind if you want to create you own custom wipes for
Edius? What color depth do you need, which dimensions etc. etc. PS this tutorial is best
viewed as “full screen” because of the resolution (1280 x 1024) |

One Canopus forum member
was wondering how one can make a vertical title roll that only shows up in a
predefined area in the picture. He came up with a solution that needed 3 Alpha
Mattes. In this tutorial I will show you an easy way of achieving this. All
you need is two video tracks, one title track and one temporary rendered
file. You can even use a nice soft border with or without a color. The
original forum thread can be read here: |

In this tutorial a more
advanced way of using wipes is demonstrated. Have you ever wondered how you
can have a Picture-in-Picture image fly BEHIND a persons head, or have an
envelope slide into a mailbox, or have a CD-rom disc that flies into the
CD-ROM player. So this is not a regular PIP that vanishes into a distant
pixel, but a image that is for instance reduced to 20 percent of its original
size and that slides into a non visible "hole" in your picture.
This effect is too difficult to describe in words, that's why I created this
tutorial. Once you have studied this, just let yourself be inspired to create
your own custom effects. The beauty of this is that it's all done with a
simple wipe. |

Does this sound familiar?
After your holiday you want to show your friends a video that displays the
route that you’ve traveled on a map of the country. This tutorial will show you how easy it is
to create this. |

You’ve probably seen it,
the opening title of Starwars. The title is rotated on the X-axis, it start
below and slowly rolls up in excessive perspective and vanishes into a point
in the distance. This tutorial will
explain how you can create an effect that sort of looks like this. Not quite,
but then again I only used the basic functionality of Edius, so no Xplode Pro
or something. |
Useful files:
Unfortunately Canopus didn’t supply these
basic patterns with Edius and Rex/Storm Edit. Feel free to use them.

You can use these bitmaps in
any application that supports greyscale “Alpha” source files. Don’t forget to use the
reverse option in your editing application if you want the pattern to move in
opposite direction. |
