Believe

The good message is: if you want to be saved, all you have to do is believe in Jesus. It's not reserved for perfect people, it's for everyone

Especially for the hopeless cases:

'And it came about, when he was in the house taking food, that a number of tax-farmers and sinners came and took their places with Jesus and his disciples. And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to his disciples, Why does your Master take food with tax-farmers and sinners? But on hearing this he said, Those who are well have no need of a medical man, but those who are ill. But go and take to heart the sense of these words, My desire is for mercy, not offerings: for I have come not to get the upright, but sinners. (Mat 9:10-13)

You probably have met people who overwhelm you with a lot of rules you should stick to. (It's in the bible, you know - However you've never actually read the bible yourself and are not able to put things in the proper context. Therefore the bible seems incomprehensible and God a relentlessly harsh ruler)
Disappointed you might have turned away...
Don't! You will not be saved by those rules, only by your faith in Jesus.

Read the bible yourself!

Some things to consider when reading the gospel:
What did the people that were healed by Jesus have to do to get healed? When was He not able to heal many and why? What was His attitude towards sinners, prostitutes, syphilitics, tax-collectors and the likes? What was His attitude towards people who thought quite well of themselves because they knew pretty sure they didn't break any Laws? What kind of people liked to be around Jesus? What kind of people did not like Him? In His sermon on the mount, why does Jesus raise the level of rules even higher and declares that He has come to fulfill these rules, not to take them away?

Do you hear about forgiveness, but you think: I can never forgive the one that has hurt me so much! Turn to Him and put everything in His hands. For with Him, everything is possible that for now is impossible to you. Stick with Him, share with Him, stay focussed on Him, He will never give up on you. You are truly loved the way you are. He will help you with all the rest. When you ask, the Holy Spirit will help you. If you want to hear, His words will start changing your heart.

Represent Him the best way you can; we can't change ourselves, our nature or our identity, but we will change if we believe in Jesus.
