Si locis divino cultui mancipatis quippiam muneris confirmamus, id nobis procul dubio ad eternam beatitudinem nanciscendam adfuturum esse confidimus. Igitur comperiat omnium fidelium sancte Dei ecclesie et nostrorum, presentium scilicet et futurorum, industria, quia ex relatu Guntharii sacri palacii nostri summi capellani et Hungarii venerabilium episcoporum didicimus, quod Traiec(tensi)s ecclesia, que in honore Christi confessoris Martini constructa esse dinoscitur, barbarica inminente nequicia pene destructa et ad nihilum redacta sit, canonicique olim in ea Domino militantes passim per diversa loca quidam dispersi, quidam etiam interempti sunt. het klooster Prüm, 2 januari 858 In de naam van de almachtige God en onze heer Jezus Christus. Lotharius, koning door Gods voorkomende genade. Wanneer wij aan plaatsen, voor de godsdienst bestemd, een of andere gift doen, zal dat ons, naar wij vertrouwen, zonder twijfel tot verkrijging der eeuwige zaligheid strekken. Derhalve zij het aan de aandacht van al onze tegenwoordige en toekomstige gelovigen van Gods heilige Kerk bekend, dat wij door het verslag van de eerbiedwaardige bisschoppen Gunther, aartskapelaan van onze heilige palts en Hunger onderricht zijn, dat de kerk van Utrecht, die naar men weet ter ere van Martinus, de belijder van Christus, gebouwd is, door de kwaadaardige invallen van vreemdelingen bijna geheel verwoest en vernietigd is en de kanunniken, die daar vroeger de Heer dienden, deels overal verspreid, deels vermoord zijn. In deze allerdringendste nood hebben zij onze hoogheid gesmeekt, aan genoemde heilige zetel een veilige en vreedzame plaats in ons rijk, tot troost en toevluchtsoord der kanunniken, te willen verlenen. Deze hun zeer deugdelijke en zeer ernstige verzoeken uit liefde tot God onze behoeder, tot voordeel en hulp van de zielen van onze grootvader Lodewijk, onze vader Lotharius zaliger gedachtenis, eertijds keizers, en ook van onze moeder Hermingard, evenals tot onze eigen zaligheid en de stabiliteit van ons rijk, zeer gaarne inwilligende, hebben wij dit gunstbewijs onzer welwillendheid doen opstellen, waarbij wij het ter ere van Sint Pieter gestichte, aan de rivier de Roer in het Maasgebied gelegen klooster, dat Berg (*) genoemd wordt, zonder enig voorbehoud, aan genoemde Utrechtse stoel overgeven en voor altijd tot vertroosting en beveiliging van de dienstdoende bestuurders en geestelijkheid van die zetel schenken; met dien verstande, dat het de genoemde dienaren Gods, na het ontvangen van dit bewijs onzer milddadigheid, nog meer dan vroeger behage Gods barmhartigheid voor onze zaligheid en die onzer voorvaderen af te smeken. En opdat deze onze vrijgevige en godvruchtige overdracht in de toekomst onaangetast blijve, hebben wij ze met eigen hand hieronder bekrachtigd en met de indruk van onze ring gelast te bezegelen. When we grant places, destined for the holy service, we trust that this will lead without doubt to our eternal salvation. That is why it will be known to the present-day and future faithful members of God's holy church, that we were informed by the venerable bishops Gunther, of our holy palace and Hunger, that the church of Utrecht, which was built to honour Martinus, the confessor of Christ, was almost completely demolished and destroyed by evil assaults of strangers and that the canons, who used to serve the Lord, were partly scattered, partly slaughtered. In their urge they have begged Our Highness to offer the mentioned holy seat a safe and peaceful place in our kingdom, for consolation and refuge. These very stout and very serious requests for the love of God our protector, for the benefit and aid of the souls of our grandfather Louis, our father Lothar fondly remembered, formerly emperors, and also for our mother Hermingard, as well as for our blissfulness and the stability of our kingdom, gladly conceding, we have drawn up this prove of our favour, in which we grant the convent at the River Roer in the district of the Meuse, founded in honour of Saint Peter, known as Berg (*), without restriction, to the before mentioned seat of Utrecht for eternal consolation and security of the administrators and the clergy of this seat; as long as the mentioned servants of God more than before beg the mercy of God for our blissfulness and that of our ancestors. So that our generous and devout grant will remain unaffected in the future, we have confirmed them with our own hand and ordered to seal it with the pressure of our ring. Quapropter omnium fidelium sanctae dei ecclesie ac nostrorum, presentium videlicet et futurorum, noverit industria, quia Adalardus illustris comes et Tieto vasallus noster, fideles scilicet nostri, deprecati sunt clementiam nostram, ut ex rebus juris nostri ex beneficio Hrorici in villa Gannita ad ecclesiam sancti Nazarii, que consistit in Lauresham aliquas res proprietatis iure tribueremus. Indien wij trachten iets te verlenen aan godgewijde plaatsen, volgen wij de gewoonte van de vroomste koningen en betwijfelen allerminst dat dit tot ons zieleheil behoort. Laat daarom de ijver van alle getrouwen van Gods heilige kerk en van ons, namelijk tegenwoordige en toekomstige, weten, dat de aanzienlijke graaf Adelhard en onze vazal Tieto, namelijk onze getrouwen, onze genade hebben gesmeekt, dat wij uit de zaken van ons recht (= die ons rechtens toebehoren) uit het bruikleen van Hrrekr in het domein Gendt (*) enige zaken in eigendom zouden verlenen aan de kerk van de heilige Nazarius die in Lorsch staat. Aan deze gebeden gaarne gehoor gevend, bevelen wij deze brieven van onze verhevenheid te maken, waarmee wij aan het voornoemde klooster van Sint Nazarius land van ons eigendom in voornoemde gouw en in voornoemd domein Gendt afstaan om voor eeuwig te hebben wegens ons zieleheil en uit ons recht overdragen in het eeuwig durende recht en de beheersing van hetzelve (**), zodat het voortaan door dit gezag van ons de krachtigste toestemming zal hebben om als deel van deze kerk te doen al wat het nuttig zal hebben geoordeeld. En opdat het gezag van deze onze schenking bevestigd en stevig zal blijven, hebben wij dit hieronder met eigen hand bevestigd en laten bezegelen met de indruk van onze ring. The palace at Asselt, September 13, 860 In the name of the almighty God and our lord Jesus Christ. Lothar, king by the grace of God. When we try to grant places dedicated to God, we follow the habit of the most pious kings and we do not hesitate at all that it is for the benefit of our soul. Therefore let the diligence of all faithful of the holy church of God and of us, namely present and future, know that the distinguished Count Adelhard and our vassal Tieto, our faithful, have begged our mercy, that we should grant from our rightful property from the benefice of Hrrekr in the domain Gendt (*) to the church of the holy Nazarius situated at Lorsch. Gladly assenting to these requests we order to make these letters of our highness, in which we grant the aforementioned convent of Saint Nazarius land from our property in the aforementioned district and the aforementioned domain Gendt for their eternal possession for the benefit of our soul and hand over from our right to the eternal right and the domination of the same (**), to such good effect that it hereafter will have our most energetic permission by this authority to do all which it will have judged usefully as a part of this church. So that the authority of this grant hereafter will remain affirmed and firmly, we have confirmed this beneath with our own hand and ordered to seal it with the pressure of our ring.
