These two magnificent halls (Philosophical and Theological Hall) you can see
in the Museum of Czech
Literature. This museum is in fact a part of
the Strahov monastery (Strahovsky kláster), which was
founded in 1140 by the Premonstratensian Order.
This most fascinating hall is the new library, the Philosophical Hall
(photograph left), which is built in 1782 and the ceiling painting is from Franz Maulbertsch telling the History of Mankind.
In the Theological Hall (the two other photographs), which is completed in 1679, you can find a.o. the astronomy globes. Some of
them are from the Dutchman Willem Blaeu. The wall paintings are telling us about the subject of a librarian.
One can not be
surprised that several films were filmed here – Dungeons & Dragons and most recent the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
