16 mei 2005 - De eerste fundraiser van Kids in the City was een groot success. Veel internationale en Nederlandse inwoners van Den Haag wisten het familiefestival te vinden. Volwassenen, maar ook veel kinderen, vermaakten zich met graaien in de grabbelton, het kopen en uitproberen van allerlei leuks (hapjes, wijn, handwerkjes en kunst) en het luisteren naar de mooie verhalen die Mary Sue Siegel en Wim Akkermans vertelden. Ongeveer tweehonderd mensen kwamen langs om steun te betuigen, feest te vieren en mee te genieten van de heerlijke Australische en Nieuw-Zeelandse wijnen die Wine Style Australia en Porte-Reffe doneerden. Ook restaurants en cafés zoals Basaal, PUCK, Greve, Sapore en O’Briens gaven gratis geschenkbonnen voor maaltijden en producten weg. En het Bombay Palace Restaurant in Scheveningen schonk honderden heerlijke samosa’s en vegetarische pakora’s.
Lokale ondernemers en kunstenaars lieten hun steun blijken door met gulle hand cadeautjes voor de tombola en prijzen voor spelletjes en workshops weg te geven. Maar het enthousiasts waren toch wel de kinderen, die zich op de workshops stortten en veel prachtige kunstwerken produceerden. Directeur Kathy Voyles bedankte alle vrijwilligers en iedereen die gekomen was om Kids in the City te steunen in haar werk: de stad Den Haag schoner en groener maken. ‘Het is een prachtig antwoord op een nog piepjonge stichting’ zei ze. ‘Een stichting die vastbesloten is verandering te brengen in de straten, parken en speeltuinen van deze stad. We verheugen ons erop met kinderen overal uit de stad te gaan werken. Ik heb veel verzoeken gekregen nog meer van dit soort evenementen te organiseren. Ik kan alleen maar zeggen: hou onze website in de gaten en moedig je kinderen en hun school aan mee te doen in het boek dat we gaan maken over ‘Dear Mr Dog’ (Lieve meneer Hond)’ .

May 16, 2005 - Stichting Kids in the City’s first family festival and fundraiser was a great success with an excellent turn-out from both the international and Dutch communities in The Hague. Adults and children had a great time fossicking in the lucky dip, buying and trying (foods, wines, handicrafts and artwork) and listening to fantastic stories told by Mary Sue Siegel and Wim Akkermans. Approximately 2 hundred people turned up to show their support, have a good time and partake of delicious Australian and New Zealand wines donated by Wine Style Australia and Porte-Reffe. Restaurants and cafes including Basaal, PUCK, Greve, Sapore and O’Briens generously donated gift-vouchers for meals and products. The Bombay Palace Restaurant in Scheveningen donated hundreds of delicious samosas and vegetable pakoras. Local business and artists were extremely supportive and provided the foundation with loads of gifts to raffle and have as prizes for games and art workshops.
Children were the most enthusiastic supporters on the day and threw themselves into the poster and sand garden workshops producing some inspiring artwork. Director Kathy Voyles sent a message of heartfelt thanks to the volunteers and all those who turned up on the day to support our campaign to work with children to make the city of The Hague cleaner and greener. ‘It’s a wonderful response to a very new foundation that is determined to make a difference to the streets, parks and playgrounds of this city. We look forward to working with children from all over the city. In answer to the many requests to stage other similar events all I can say is check this site regularly and encourage your kids and schools to take part in our Dear Mr Dog book.
