Large Turks Heads can not be made without a proper "tool" anymore. So, one can use the so called Foundation method, especially the Pilot knot or Guide Cord method. What you have to do is described hereafter.
First, place a proper number of pins, in two rows, around a wooden cylinder or mailing tube. Second, tie an end of thin thread to a left pin and lead it away in a right diagonal of 45 degrees and around a right pin. Next lead the thread, again in a diagonal of 45 degrees, to a left pin. If the knot, you planned to make, is to have e.g. 8 Leads this should be the eighth pin beyond the initial one. If the knot is to have 10 Leads, it is the eleventh pin and so on. Continue to lead the thread parallel with the initial leads till you reach pin number one again. Now your pilot knot is finished and you can start making the final knot.
Take a suitable length of material, other than you made the pilot knot from, and start tying, taking the crossings one over, one under. Tying such a knot takes a considerable amount of time. To speed things up you can use a doubled piece of material to tie the knot with. (You actually are tying two plys at a time).
