Alex has talked to Alexandra Huci's father and he was very happy that we are trying to help them. He told him that although Ion Tiriac and others have donated money, it won't cover
all their expenses of the funeral and they have a huge debt. So many people attended the funeral and the 40th Memorial Day will come up soon too and that will be another expensive day for them.
They had to move from Roman to Ion Creanga due to financial difficulties. In Ion Creanga, they live in their grandmother's house and don't have running water. They have to walk down to a public well to get
water. The winters are very severe where they live so you can imagine how terrible this must be for them.
Ideas for the collected money:
Water pump
Through donations, we could help them to buy a water pump. A good quality pump, with a steel water-storage compartment and an automatic control-switch for on/off, is around $300. Then you need the PVC pipes and
electric cable which costs around $150. The costs could differ because it depends on how deep they will have to dig to get access to the water. Alex has experience with what kind of equipment they need because he has just bought
a water pump for friends.
The water pump will not only be helpful in the house but they could have a vegetable garden which needs to be watered too. The summer has been very hot so all the crops are gone. This would be 'saved' by having a water pump so they can spray the garden.
Statue for the one year anniversary for Alexandra
It would be a special gift from all the Romanian gymnastics fans if we could design a 'gymnastics-pose' statue to put on Alexandra's grave and her father thought it was a lovely gesture.
I have to state that this is only possible after one year as their religion doesn't allow you to change anything on her grave within a year.
On the statue there would be an inscription made with the text: 'From Romanian gymnastics fans from all over the world'.
After the one-year anniversary, all donators will receive a printed colour photo of the monument with a thank you letter for their donation.
Any artist who wants to send in a design is welcome. Then Alexandra's parents can choose which one will be made as the statue for their daughter's grave.
Ana Maria
Ana Maria will stay in Deva. She had to retire due to back problems. It would also be nice if we could support her by buying a computer for her further education.
Of course all these ideas depend on how much money we will raise in the end so any amount, even if it's $5, is welcome.
A local lawyer will accompany Alex to Ion Cranga to witness the handing over of the money to Alexandra's parents and also a local notary will certify the receipt. Proof of this will be posted on this site.
