Social scientist have to specialize in statistics allthough it is not their cup of tea. Famous books are 'Foundations of Behavioral Research' (Fred N. Kerlinger) and 'Using multivariate Statistics' (Barbara G. Tabachnick and Linda S. Fidell). But we can have more fun with statistics through the work of Andy Field and his book 'Discovering Statistics Using SPSS' (London: Sage, 2005). His website www.statisticshell.com is wonderful. Joop Hox is able to explain multilevel analysis in a entertaining way.

Useful links for scientific work: A reference search on the web can be done by visiting Pubmed, ERIC, Psychinfo and Cochran.org. Google provides a search of scholarly literature (scholar.google.nl) and a nice directory of social science topics.

The quotationspage.com delivers quotations for everyday. More about the weather and facts about nature in the Netherlands are found on natuurkalender, vogelbescherming and meteopagina. The University of Amsterdam provides a comprehensive encyclopedia of astronomy. Finally Google Earth of course is spectacular too.
