The standard service MkVI respirator bag was modified for parachutists: 2 webbing strips with press studs fitted at the ends were added to both sides near the bottom. The parachutist would have to put on the respirator bag befor the parachute. He could then put it in an upside down position and work the webbing strips around the parachutes shoulder straps and close the press stud. The idea behind it was that when the bag was opened the respirator would come out automatically and the parachutist could put the respirator on during descend.
They became redundant with the introduction of the light pattern respirator at the end of 1942.
