Escape maps were issued to RAF pilots and other special forces and showed a detailed map of the area they would operate in. The maps were printed on silk as this would not deteriorate when it becomes wet. Sometimes they were issued in rubberised canvass pouches marked "maps only" which would also include a small saw covered in a protective layer of waxed paper and a small compass. For operation Market Garden map C/D was issued which is shown in the above picture.
