The British gravity knife is an almost direct copy to the German gravity knife apart from the chequered plastic grips. It was designed to be opened with a flick of the wrist so that a parachutist who landed in a tree could cut the shroud lines to free himself. They were made by George Ibberson & Company and bear a contract number 'C.O.S.D/2194' and production number stamped under the marlin spike.
