The rear brake spring
I had problems fitting the rear
brake spring once. It was loose and I tried to connect it to its hole with long-nose-pliers.
Very difficult, too difficult for me. And which hole?
Both springs of the brake pedal mechanism were not connected any more.
There are two holes to fit
the end of the springs. How should it be done and which spring to which hole? I do not see an illustration in the Haynes or in the
Yamaha manual.
The easy way is to take off
the right aluminum plate that supports the footbrake pedal, passenger peg and
silencer. Also disconnect the end nut of the brake rod at the rear wheel. The
brake spring is fitted to the aluminum plate.

The spring of the rear brake is situated behind this
aluminum plate.
This specimen is that of the sidecar XZ: the 30 mm ball
is one of
the three balls that connect the XZ to the
MZ sidecar.
The backside of this
aluminum plate shows up in the next photograph below: the red arrow indicates
the hole to which the spring of the brake light switch is connected. The spring
of the rear brake pedal is fitted to the strongest of
the two lips, the back one, in fact.
XZv2
Photograph that shows how the rear brake spring must
be
fitted. The red arrow indicates the lid to
which the spring
of the brake light switch is connected.
It also shows the
way the sidecar connection ball is fitted
to a large nut and
a steel reinforcement plate.
