Carburetor cleaning

We use WEMA, German carburetor cleaner for our XZ carburetors.

It comes in 1 liter bottles

You add 5 liters of water; put the carburetors in a pan that can hold the 6 liters.

Heat the mixture to 60 degrees Celsius and keep it at that temperature for at least 20 minutes, and up to 60 minutes for the dirtiest of carburetors.

You can keep the mixture and it is enough to clean 5 or 6 carburetors that are really dirty. The mixture gets dirtier and it evaporates slightly during the treatment.

When I found this stuff and bought it in Germany (I do not live far from the border) I thought of the necessary container and the prescribed temperature.

In a secondhand shop my wife found very cheap (I think 2 dollars) a big kettle, large enough to accommodate a set of XZ carburetors and in a kitchen utensils shop a thermometer to check the internal temperature of big pieces of meat (more expensive than 2 dollars).

I bored a hole in the cover to fit the thermometer and this works perfect.

I use also a small metal sifter to keep the small parts such as jet screws, rubber rings, etc together and immerse them.

After the hour in the bath everything has to be rinsed in water under the tap and blown out with compressed air.

I spray some WD-40 on the carburetors after mounting them on the bike to keep oxidation away from the extremely clean outside.

All you need for carburetor cleaning

A good temperature check is possible in this way
