Sam and Frodo obviously are my favourite Tolkien characters. My main goal is to put their story into pictures - focussing on their harsh journey to Mount Doom and the destruction of the One Ring. Why I like them so much? That's an easy question, so it seems. On second thought, it's a very difficult one, as there are so many reasons, I can't possibly sum up all of them. Because of their endurance. Their warm friendship. Their holding on to each other, whatever misery they encounter on their journey. Their warm hearts, their good nature, their spirits. So different, but yet so alike in their love for the Shire and their kin - and so much depending on each other in any thinkable way. I just love them so much! Peter Jackson's Movie Trilogy has indeed inspired me - the appearance of the wonderful actors (Elijah Wood and Sean Astin) that gave life to our dear hobbits on the screen has surely left a strong mark on the way I portray them. Quite often though, my interpretation tends to diverge for a bit. I would have preferred to see a little more emotional interaction and character development in stead of PJ's endless, on-going Orc-, Warg-, Oliphaunt- and WhatEver-bashing...
My goal is to illustrate the tenderness in Sam and Frodo's relationship - and thus to do honour to Tolkien's books. |

A copy of the dear old Book lies next to my bed - and I expect it to remain my primal source of inspiration for a very, very long time...! |

Never before I did I portray one *other* hobbit than Sam and/or Frodo! Until I found the *perfect* model for my Meriadoc Brandybuck. Nay, not that guy from the movies, sorry 'bout that. Got meself a much better one, I think. |
