At the close of 2004, Maaike Gottschal and Uli Schuster presented their study into the contemporary representations of the football jersey at Casco. The Dutch national squad's jersey takes centre stage in this study. Who determines what it will look like and what it represents? Where does the transition between national pride and commercial interests lie? Gottschal and Schuster saw the 'confusion' surrounding the jersey's representative function as an opportunity to re-arrange the various elements. Can, for example, multicultural identity, the philosophy of total football, a penalty trauma or a phenomenon such as Johan Cruijff inspire a new design proposal? Part of the study can now be viewed at: http://www.oranjehemden.nl |
