The Doghouse Slappers Society is a virtual meeting point for upright bass players. It's founded in order to share knowledge and experiences about (slappin') upright bass  and meant to be a worldwide resource pool of experienced slappers musicians looking for a  (stand-in) bass player  etc.

This site is for slappers, from slappers and by slappers so we need YOUR contribution! You can become a member by sending at least one nice picture of you and your doghouse, a detailed CV and of course all the dirty details about your setup (bass, strings, pickup, amp etc.). One-liners ("I'm Pete and play a Kay upright with underwood pickup through a Peavey TNT100 amp") will not be awarded with a membership simply because this is too insufficient information for others. We want interesting stuff for the site to help others.

While there isn't much info around on upright bass slappin', it really is kinda hard to get started with. Once you do, you'll defenitely run into some inevitable "problems" e.g. with your gear (feedback when amplifying your bullfiddle etc.) but also physical restriction like like "how on earth can you triple slap in fast songs?" and "is slappin' supposed to hurt your fingers?" (no it isn't BTW!!).

The best source to get the info from, is from practice so that's why I founded this society. You can learn from experiences of others and hopefully share yours with others as well. Slappin' bass nowadays seems to be a "rare species" hopefully the DSS will save this "ungentle art" from dying out.

I will screen all articles and membership info but please be aware that I'm not allknowing and experiences always are personal and (can be) very subjective so... if you might find things that are wrong, just let me know and I might correct the statements or check with the author. So... That's what it's about people! I will try to puslish some tech articles here as well and maybe the latest rumours on famous slappers, new gear etc. Hopefully, there are some people who can help me with by sending in contributions (plain text please, email is OK!)
