Cycling
in the mountains particularly has been made popular by big professional rounds
like the Tour de France especially when the first radio and television broadcasts
began. A lot of (older) people knows stories of heroic stages in the old times
with famous riders like Federico Bahamontes, Louison Bobet, Fausto Coppi, Eddy
Merckx and so on. Nowadays a lot of young riders climbs the famous passes to
try to do the same as Pantani or Armstrong.
