March 14 latest update

after the mishap from  Oct 12 it turned out I was in need of a new regulator,

could get an original one from www.aermacchi-racing.com

actually got 3,only 1 turned out to be ok , also bought a new battery charger

the charger has a build in testing circuit and the light on it stayed red

meaning my old battery was dead so had to get a new battery too.

on to November

got a  header pipe well not a complete one but enough to get started with

thanks Bert for that one :-)

needed to get a flange welded to it so jumped on the bike..

to get to the welder after a left turn the engine started to sputter and hesitate

I noticed some smoke coming from my crotch ...ut oh..aaaghhhhh

hell no it's from the bike .. stopped and jumped off  ..shit ... it's burning !!!

what happened I place the starter relais on the back of the battery box

and the bolt that holts the pos. wire coming directly from the battery worked it self loose

you can imagine what a nice short cut that made the wires got so hot  they just caught fire !!

managed to put it out...no no not like that ...  just blowing worked all ready

had to push it to the welder about two miles so not that bad

yeah yeah every mile pushing a bike is a mile too many I know

anyway got the pipe on the bike and the wires replaced and was able to ride home.

then I fabricated some new engine support brackets

can't recall when so don't pin me down on that

front and rear ones, got some aluminum sheet from the junkyard

and it just took a long time to get them grinded into the right shape

also made a rear brake braked from stainless steel the stock one didn't look too good anymore

then I decided it was about time for the aluminum rims

but want to keep the stock wheels complete.. there's still that original frame !

so needed some hubs got a complete front wheel and a rear hub from the

aermacchi club and ordered a front anchor plate from aermacchi-racing (a-r)

a couple  of day later the packages from a-r arrived and was kinda heavy

oh he did send a complete front brake drum and anchor plate.. good :-)

so now I'm waiting for the wheels to be ready , as from today it's another week

I'll put up some pictures in other pages  that are linked to the button at the bottom

till then......Jack

update October 12 2002

Took the bike for a ride today ran great till..

we* had to wait for a traffic light a bit too long.......

at the same moment it went back to green the engine stalled.

Couldn't get it going any more and started to walk ( ding in the ego ).

The Harley dealer we're heading for is about 2 miles from the point I stranded

tried a couple of times to start, but to nope still not running until I got to an under passing,

ok that might help a medium steep down hill so put it in second gear ignition on choke on gas tap open

and yep that did the trick,  I rode it to the dealership that's better for the ego instead of getting there pushing the bike.

One of the gas taps was leaking too so had a look at that, fixed by now, and put the battery on the charger for a couple of hours.

Then tried to start but the start motor still not power full enough to turn the engine over, kicked it and it started, measured the

the power getting to the battery nope nada nothing , so I have to check the charging system and the bike is grounded.

The battery however had 11.70 volts in it, so I was able to get home without trouble and didn't have to wait

for any red traffic light just managed to sneak through all traffic. Oh well I wanted a bike to wrench,

so here it is. oops just notice it started to rain so was lucky I made it home dry.

* we ... because my wife rode along on her bike

that's it for now.

October 4 2002

For now the bike is ready to ride,

OK have to admit there are always a few things  on the wish list

an new exhaust system would be nice, the dual pipe was cut of by the previous owner

and welded to become a single outlet only so that doesn't look too nice,

a set of  alloy racing rims would look good on it and a BIG 4 leading shoe front brake.

Today it's August 18 and I did make some progress  since the last update on this page ...

the engine is back in and most of the parts are back in place

now it's just some minor !! details and fine tuning

1 of the details is to fabricate a rear set shifter mechanism but to get that working the side-stand

needs to be moved more to the front for clearance, for that I need to go to the welder

and to do so there's time needed so it'll take a week or 2 b4 I get to that.

Ok weather is good right now so I'm of for a ride around the block..
