Aid is a forty year old man. He lives in a house made of mats
(beyt burush as the Ababda call this typical dwelling) in the
fishing settlement of Monazig. He accepts any job to support
his wife and two children. He drives us around in his small
Toyota truck, and knows all the roads and paths in the desert.
He is smart and has a friendly smile.
Aid likes music and sings all the time when driving his car. In
Wadi Abuxum we meet his old mother, sisters and other members
of his numerous family. In the evening he invites his friends
to visit. We drink many cups of Ababda coffee, smoke
an Egyptian water pipe together, and the men sing and
dance for us until late in the night. Aid is a very good
director and an excellent singer.
